Today greeted me with beautiful clear skies and sunshine — the kind that makes you want to jump on the bike before the roads wake up. The morning started with plenty of downhill, a few flats, and just a couple of gentle climbs. Within 30 minutes, I’d already clocked 7 km and decided that definitely called for a coffee break!
As the day rolled on, so did the traffic — buses, trucks, and all the reasons cyclists develop nerves of steel. The further south I go, the more I’m finding myself sharing busy State highways, which makes for some hair-raising moments.
By the time I reached Tomislavgrad (safely, thankfully!), it was time to weigh up my options for tomorrow’s route:
- Brave 62 km on the State highway 🚛
- Take the scenic-but-lonely old road — 74 km of steep climbs, no towns, and no accommodation until almost Mostar 😬
- Or… hop on the bus 🚍
After a little soul (and safety) searching, the bus won. I’ve booked my ticket, secured a spot for my trusty bike, and will be rolling out at 8 a.m. — just 1.5 hours to Mostar! I’ve also found a comfy apartment for two nights, and everyone says Mostar is absolutely stunning. Can’t wait.
From there, the plan is to catch the train towards the Croatian border, then pedal from Ploče along the EuroVelo 8 route — hugging the sparkling Adriatic coast all the way down to Dubrovnik and onwards to Montenegro 🇲🇪
