As I step away from the comfort and friendships of Mexico and begin a new chapter, I am looking forward to new adventures, discoveries and challenges.
We all have dreams and bucket-list ambitions, but sometimes our greatest journey is finding the courage to face the fears that have followed us through life.
At five years old, I dreamed of becoming a nurse. I would walk around the house in my little white nurse’s uniform with a stethoscope around my neck. Then an unfortunate childhood accident and time spent in hospital turned that dream into a phobia — a fear that remained with me for more than fifty years.
Now I feel ready to face it.
My hope is to turn that old dream into something meaningful by helping people affected by humanitarian disasters and difficult circumstances. Venezuela will be an important part of this journey, but wherever my skills and experience can be useful, I hope to contribute.
2026–2027 will be a year of courage, growth, understanding, joy and accomplishment — a year to step outside my comfort zone, face an old fear, embrace new possibilities and make a difference wherever I can.
Perhaps, after more than fifty years, that little five-year-old girl in her white uniform is finally getting her chance.
