Yesterday was a fantastic day!
After feeding Pancho at 7am, then I settled into a large pile of mending. Everything from mosquito-net doors and towels to making covers for the tops of freezers.
Then, over lunch of delicious local piranha fish, Marilyn casually asked if I’d like to join her on one of her tours with two German tourists.
Well… yes, please!
And what a tour it turned out to be. We headed off to the local reserve for an afternoon of bird watching, animal spotting and paw-print tracking.
We saw an amazing variety of birds, including a woodpecker’s nest with three eggs inside. There were also a family of capybara, jabirus, flamingos and plenty of other feathered residents. One impressive one was in the middle of a roundabout, a burrowing owl. Beautiful bird.
But the real excitement came from the tracks — evidence of puma, tapir, wild cats and other creatures that had clearly been busy while we weren’t looking!
It was a long afternoon, but absolutely worth every step. One minute I’m sewing mosquito-net doors, and the next I’m following mysterious animal tracks through the bush. You just never know what the day is going to bring here!
