Growing up in the little farming community of Karaka in South Auckland, I went to a country school where Calf Day was a very big deal!
Each year we’d take our carefully trained pet lambs or calves to school, along with our pikelets, cakes, flower arrangements and whatever else we were entering into. There were ribbons to be won, and plenty of very proud children and even prouder animals.
I never had a pet calf. It was always a lamb for me.
So perhaps it’s no surprise that, all these years later, I’ve completely fallen in love with the six little lambs here on the ranch.
Some things never change… once a pet lamb girl, always a pet lamb girl! ❤️🐑
