Despite wrestling with a pesky throat infection, I’ve been keeping myself busy in Daruvar with a bit of gentle gardening each day. I’ve wandered through the local markets, strolled the quiet streets, and quickly discovered this is definitely not a bustling town. What makes it unique, though, is its Czech heritage—Daruvar is known as the largest Czech community in Croatia, and you’ll often hear Czech spoken alongside Croatian.
To reach the town, I pass through a small forest that feels like a secret little pathway. Tucked within it lies something unexpected—a Jewish cemetery, quietly resting in the shade of the trees. It gives the walk an almost timeless feel, as though the town carries its stories in layers, waiting to be noticed.
