Belgrade Buzz – Shades of the City

Belgrade is a city on fast-forward — full of energy, movement, and contrast. Half the people walk around beaming, the other half look like they’ve just seen the morning bus disappear around the corner.

One thing I’ve really noticed since arriving in Serbia: the younger generation loves to smile, chat, and say hello, while the older folks tend to keep to themselves, a little more reserved but always polite.

Last night brought the best meal I’ve had in ages — perfectly cooked salmon fillets! The service, however, was another story. Let’s just say I really hope the tip made its way to the kitchen, because those chefs deserve a medal.

Belgrade shows its many shades day and night. On my walk back from the restaurant, I stumbled across a lively “shot pop-up station” on the street, complete with a crowd, laughter, and that unmistakable Friday-night buzz.

Today was all about gearing up — I made a trip to Decathlon for hiking poles and supplies, getting ready for adventures ahead. Jutta arrives tomorrow, and we’re both beyond excited about exploring Tara National Park, home to around 50–60 brown bears. Fingers crossed she’s packed her bear whistle!

Oh, and one curious thing about Belgrade: the buses seem to operate on an honor system — or maybe no system at all! People just hop on and off without paying. It’s oddly liberating.

After a noisy night near clubs and restaurants, I’ve moved hostels and am crossing my fingers for a peaceful sleep tonight. Belgrade keeps me on my toes, but I’m loving every unpredictable minute of it.
