This morning kicked off with a hearty breakfast — at the time, we had no idea just how much we’d need it! Within the first kilometre, we found ourselves on the trail we should’ve finished yesterday… and that’s when the real adventure began.
A dozen river crossings later (give or take a few wet boots), we were climbing up a steep embankment like mountain goats who’d lost their map. Every bit of trail research had one clear warning: don’t wander off-track — there are still unexploded land mines around. So yes, we’re feeling rather proud to report we survived with all limbs intact, albeit covered in mud, damp socks, and the occasional leaf or twig we picked up as “souvenirs.”
Sadly, no bear, goat, or deer sightings today — though I suspect they were somewhere nearby, watching our river-dance routine and having a good chuckle.
Today’s total was 18.5 km — with more laughter and breaks than yesterday. Near Mitrovac, we spotted the café at the viewpoint was open and thought, “Perfect, almost there!” A cold beer an awesome view … later, we checked the map… only to discover there were still 6.5 km to go — and most of it uphill. Urg…
But we made it — tired, muddy, and smiling from ear to ear. 🍻
