Foggy skies greeted us this morning, and with a bit of a chill in the air, we set off on our hike anyway — and wow, was it worth it! Once we left the road behind, the forest opened up into an incredible wonderland of breathtaking views and magical woodland paths.
This was the hike I’d planned for our first afternoon in Mitrovac, but better late than never! From cheerful little birds to towering trees, I couldn’t resist snapping photos of everything — from intricate tree rings to tiny saplings bravely growing through the trunks of others. The forest floor was alive with fascinating fungi, and at one point, a curious little mouse peeked at us from behind a delicate lacework of spiderweb — his own cozy hideaway.
We even picked up two friendly canine companions along the way, who clearly approved of our company (and our snacks). We offered them our cornbread muffins, which were about as hard as hockey pucks despite our best effort to soak them in leftover sardine juice from the night before — but the dogs didn’t mind one bit! They happily trotted beside us all the way to the end of our 12km adventure.
The perfect finish? A hearty lunch at the local restaurant, washed down with a cold local beer and topped off with a shot of schnapps — purely for cultural research, of course!
