A Stroll Through Athens’ “No Surprises” Meat Market ✨

If there’s one place in Athens that never fails to deliver… it’s the meat market. It’s a feast for photographers, even if it’s not exactly a feast for the faint-hearted. Growing up on a farm, I know the whole process of paddock-to-plate (whether I like to think about it or not!). As much as I wish animals didn’t have to be killed, I can’t deny that I still enjoy the taste of some… sigh, the moral dilemma continues.

Today’s highlights? A mysterious pile of what I think were intestines—your guess is as good as mine. The seafood section, though, was a totally different story. Absolutely mouth-watering. If freshness had a smell, this was it.

And tomorrow, for my final day in Athens, I’m treating myself to lunch at what appears to be THE seafood hotspot in the city. The octopus, sardines, and salmon I ogled at the market today already have me counting down the hours.Spotted: no goat, no pork… but the hooves I saw? Enormous. Truly huge. Also: meat in Greece? Significantly cheaper than in Australia.
