From Chaos to Charm: Crossing Worlds on Two Wheels

Transitioning between the “old first world” and “second world” countries has been both confronting and a little confusing — like stepping through time zones of temperament. One moment, I’m wrapped in the warmth and affection of Albanians with their big smiles and open hearts; the next, I’m met with the polished, Italian-influenced style of southern Albania — and suddenly, everyone’s a little more… sophisticated (and slightly impatient).

Then comes Ioannina, Greece — where the avenues gleam with gold jewellers, dentists, and doctors’ signs. I’ve rolled from the wonderfully chaotic to the politely reserved, and now into the delightfully cheerful north of Greece, where smiles are abundant and life hums at a happy rhythm.

Here, even the street dogs have it quite good — each with their own little wooden kennel, snoozing contentedly on the pedestrian streets during the day, bellies round from lots of love. The cats, meanwhile, wander gracefully, tails high and eyes wise, mingling calmly with humans as if they’re the true keepers of the city’s secrets.

I’m staying another night — content just to observe, admire, and soak up this fascinating blend of warmth, elegance, and quiet joy.
