From River Views to City Lights – Bajina Bašta to Novi Sad

This morning we set off to explore the sights of Bajina Bašta, starting with the famous little house perched on a rock in the middle of the Drina River. It’s every bit as charming (and slightly improbable) as the photos suggest! On the opposite bank, a few Bosnian fishermen were fly-fishing—clearly having a far more peaceful morning than we were about to have.

By early afternoon, we boarded the bus to Novi Sad—six hours of winding roads and scenic beauty. The journey followed the Drina River almost the whole way, with Bosnia’s rugged mountains on one side and Serbian farmlands on the other. It was like travelling between two worlds, each with its own rhythm and charm. I couldn’t help noticing a contrast in the houses on either side—Bosnia seemed to have the flashier rooftops, while Serbia perhaps played the role of the humble (and endearing) little brother.

At last, we rolled into Novi Sad, found our apartment without too much drama, and settled in. After a long day on the road, we treated ourselves to some well-earned snacks and a nightcap of Jägermeister. A perfect way to toast to new cities and tomorrow’s adventures!
