Said goodbye to Antalya this morning — but only a see you later. I’ll definitely be back, as this is where I plan to start the Lycian Way, weather gods willing.
The day began with a couple of relaxed hours on the bus to Alanya, followed by what I assumed would be a quick hunt for a taxi. Plot twist: before the taxi ride, I ducked into a grocery shop. When I came back out, I asked a local if I needed to walk back to the bus terminal to find a taxi.
He smiled, said “no,” and calmly walked me over to the nearest tree… where he pointed to a taxi button. Yes, an actual button. Two minutes later, a taxi appeared like magic. Apparently, these buttons are dotted around Alanya — because why not make life easier?
I arrived safely and was greeted by an incredible view from my third-floor studio apartment — one of those views that makes you pause and grin.
I met Rojda, who is German-born but Turkish, and grew up in Germany arriving in Turkey just over a year ago. She’s in the process of taking over her aunt’s business and works closely with a German charity that relocates cats and dogs to their forever homes in Germany. At the moment, there are only a few furry guests staying — some just passing through on their way to new lives.
It feels like a good place to land, and I’m really looking forward to the days ahead. 🌿🐾
