Started the day all wrapped up and ready to go — and what an awesome hike it turned out to be! Breathtaking views, magical forests, colourful fungi, and beautiful flowers everywhere… though sadly, still no bears. We did, however, spot two graceful deer, which made our day.
The storm had left quite a bit of damage behind, so we had to rely on Jutta’s trail app — mine wanted to send us wading along the riverbank, and with the river swollen from all the rain, that wasn’t happening! Our original accommodation (the one that cancelled) was way up at 1500 metres, but we’ve since decided to keep things below 1100 metres — the mountain weather up there is far too unpredictable for our liking.
We even caught a few fleeting glimpses of sunshine today before the clouds rolled back in. Despite the storm’s destruction, we managed to stay dry from start to finish — a small miracle! All in all, it was an excellent 19–20 km hike, and I have a feeling I’ll sleep like a log tonight. Tomorrow we’ll be heading back to Mitrovac, taking a different route and seeing what surprises the trail has in store for us next.
