My Dreams of Becoming Wife Number 63

Before I came to Paraguay, I told several friends that I was going to stay with the Mennonites.

Their response?

“Well, don’t be surprised if you come home as the 63rd wife of a Mennonite!

Apparently they had a very interesting idea of Mennonite culture.

I have now done my research and, sadly, I have some devastating news.

Traditional Paraguayan Mennonite culture is not polygamous.

One husband. One wife. That’s the traditional arrangement.

So, after all the excitement, anticipation and careful consideration of my potential new wardrobe, I have to report that my dreams of becoming Wife Number 63 have been completely shattered.

I had already started wondering whether there was a queue…

Turns out there isn’t.

Oh well.

Back to the sewing room.!!!!!
