The garden here is bursting with fresh vegetables, and I’ve now been asked to help out in the garden as well. Things just keep getting better!
Well, that’s what I thought as I sat down for our family lunch and saw some beautifully cooked schnitzels waiting for me. They looked delicious, and I was quite happy with the choice of lunch.
Until I discovered they weren’t meat schnitzels at all.
They were tripe schnitzels! 😳
Tripe is apparently a favourite here in Paraguay, and I have to admit it was certainly an unexpected addition to my culinary adventures. I gave it a go, of course — when you’re living and working with a family, you have to embrace these experiences! It´s definitely not for me, horrible.
Thankfully, it was served with rice cooked with garlic and shredded carrot, which was absolutely delicious. That rice may well become one of my new favourites.
So, between working in the garden and discovering new things on the dinner table, life here continues to provide plenty of surprises!
