She’s Back on Two Wheels!

What started as a Sunday stroll turned into 12 km of walking, a motorbike ride, a car ride, a bus trip, a wildlife museum, a zoo—and a lost handbag adventure!

My map was wrong, so I asked a local for directions. His answer was, “I’ll take you on my motorbike.” Well, yes please!

I wandered along the riverside separating Paraguay and Argentina, watching military patrol boats, water skiers, fishermen and a sailboat all sharing the water.

Another friendly local later offered me a lift to the main road. Very kind—but his car definitely needed some attention. He had to pump the brakes to stop at the traffic lights.

Then came the bus, which doesn’t take cash. Luckily, an ice-cream vendor kindly paid my fare with his card and wouldn’t accept my cash in return. What a lovely man!

Spotting Botánica from the bus, I jumped off to explore. The natural history museum was fantastic—free, interactive and packed with preserved wildlife from Paraguay and around the world. Children could get right up close to the exhibits, and families were everywhere. A wonderful way to teach children about animals and respect for wildlife.

Next came the zoo, where being over 50 meant free entry! There were some magnificent lions, pumas, cheetahs and jaguars. I’m not usually a fan of zoos, but the animals appeared well cared for, and the bird enclosures were stocked with plenty of fresh food.

Finally, I ordered a Bolt motorcycle home.

We arrived, my driver asked for a drink of water, and suddenly I realised…

I’d left my bag at the petrol station!

So back we went. Thankfully, the lovely ladies at the counter had found it and kept it safe.

Bag recovered, home safely—and still smiling.

Not a bad Sunday stroll after all!
