Another night tour last night, this time joining a lovely French couple, and we were rewarded with some great sightings.
We saw a Chaco mara, which looks like a rather unusual cross between a large rabbit and a guinea pig. We also spotted two different foxes — the crab-eating fox and the pampas fox.
The real highlight, though, was a Southern three-banded armadillo. He had injured his shell several months ago, but thankfully he has been doing really well and seems to have recovered nicely. It was great to see him looking so healthy.
We also found the Azara’s night monkeys. These little visitors sometimes come around the house at night. The staff don’t feed them, so they simply turn up when they feel like it, and they can only be seen in certain trees. I think they know exactly where to hang out!
Every night tour seems to bring something different, and I’m certainly not complaining. There is always another Chaco resident waiting to make an appearance …. the puma.
