Title: A Stroll, Some Squid, and a Thousand Chunky Pidgeons

l finally managed to enjoy a nicer day in Athens! I kicked things off with the changing of the guards — all ceremony and precision — before happily meandering through the streets with no particular plan in mind.

Lunch was an absolute treat: fresh seafood with octopus and squid skewers that were so good I briefly considered ordering seconds… or thirds.

Along the way, I also discovered Athens’ true locals: the pidgeons. Hundreds — no, thousands — of feathered freeloaders helping themselves to dates, nuts, and Turkish delight right from the store fronts.

Honestly, with that diet, it’s no wonder the pigeons here are on the plump side. The soundtrack to the city was just as good as the food.

Musicians dotted the streets, filling the air with everything from traditional tunes to jazzy riffs. And of course, pretzels and corn on every corner because Athens knows how to keep you well-fed while wandering.

A lovely day, a tasty meal, and some exceptionally well-fed pidgeons — what more could you ask for?
