When storms end in Colour

The weather seemed to run through every emotion today. Thunder and lightning rumbled through the night and lingered into the early morning, right as I was leaving the pet hotel — a dramatic start to the day, to say the least.

Not long after, the scenery shifted completely. Snow-capped mountains appeared, framed by rugged cliffs, making the landscape feel wild and almost otherworldly. Then came the real showstopper: the first purple rainbow I have ever seen, stretching across the sky and stealing centre stage.

I’ve only ever known rainbows with yellow and orange edging, but this one was different — vivid orange blended with deep purple along its borders. The reason lies apparently in the angle of the sunlight and how it passes through raindrops. When the sun is lower in the sky, the light travels a longer path through the atmosphere, allowing colours like violet and purple to become more visible. A little science, a lot of magic.

Konya itself is amazing — cold, dramatic, and so different from the other parts of Turkey I’ve visited. As a final unexpected treat, I came across a bride and groom in the middle of a photo shoot, adding a touch of romance to an already memorable day.

The last two colours are blue and purple, unfortunately the photo doesn’t do it justice.
